The Department of Psychology provides a graduation programme and a post-graduation programme in Psychology. The Psychology is a fascinating subject and hence everyone gets attracted to the subject instantaneously. B.Sc. Psychology course was started in 2015, in order to satisfy the needs of students who seek a Psychology degree for their professional career due to the increasing demand for professionals in Psychology. The Post Graduate Department of Psychology started in 2019.

The Psychology department of Mount Carmel College is well furnished with a department library, two well-equipped laboratories, educational models, charts and CDs. The department employs innovative teaching techniques- including power point presentations, paper presentations, group discussions, reactions to articles, collaborative learning, peer assisted learning, case analyses, practice journal, self-management projects, etc.

The department has six faculty members. It has a counselling psychotherapy center which provides psychological interventions to the public with various kinds of psychological or mental disorders. The department has two laboratories with 110 psychological test materials (which measure intelligence, memory, personality, neurocognitive functions, creativity, attention, cognition, aptitude etc.). The laboratory also has assessment batteries for learning disability, autism and neurocognitive impairments. The Department has a collection of 350 subject- related books. The Department has a high pass percentage and students have gone for higher studies, like an M. Phill in Clinical Psychology and Ph.D in top Central Universities. The Psychology department has signed more than 10 MoUs with various organisations to enhance students’ training and progression.

PY800403 SPECIALIZATIONS IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

CO1: Students will learn about the areas where they can work as clinical psychologist.
CO2: Students will learn how to promote mental health and prevent mental illness.
CO3: Students will be aware of the laws related to mental health.

PY010403 INTERNSHIP AND CASE STUDY (PRACTICAL)

CO1: The student has to do the internship for a minimum of 200 hours by the end of the fourth semester.
CO2: This is to be done under the supervision of a teacher and the student has to submit a report on his activities in the institution/setting (clinical setting/ organization/ school setting etc.
CO3: The student should also learn to do case study and submit adequate individual cases of relevance as separate work.

PY010404 DISSERTATION (PROJECT)

CO1: The Student would be able to identify research problems, carry out research, do appropriate statistical analysis and write report findings in the area of clinical psychology.
CO2: The Student would be publishing the research carried out in research journals.
