Mental Health Day Observation ’22
Mental Health Day was effectively observed by the Department of Social Work. Children ages 16 to 17 took part in a seminar at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School in Pallarimangalam on the subject of “MENTAL HEALTH
CHALLENGES AMONG ADOLESCENTS.” The resource person was Dr. Shiju Kizhakkedom, a professor and expert committee member at the Centre for Yoga and Naturopathy at M. G. University. With its psychological exercises, the session was entertaining.
WORKSHOP ON FLOURISHING PROFESSIONALS-2022
The Department of Social Work held a skill development programme named “Workshop on Flourishing Professionals” on December 14 and 15, 2022. This programme mainly focuses on skill development for students in M.Sc. Psychology and MSW. Resource persons were chief consultant Joseph Antony (MSW, M.Phil.) and Philip Chakkathara (M.Sc. Psychology, M.Phil.) from MARK and PHIL Associates. The professionals make the students do lots of activities. The team works like activity and games with charts this helped the students to associated and cooperate with their teamwork’s on a certain projects or get involved in team activities. The significance of being unique, personal growth, communication skills, inter-personal relationships that appear confident, and how to develop a team and become professionally trained in psychology and social work are all highlighted on the workshop.
CANCER AWARENESS DAY’22
To convey an awareness regarding the cancer, the Department of Social Work conducted a seminar on National Cancer Awareness Day for the students of Mount Carmel College. Dr. Kiran Paskalice, MBBS,MD(RCC) clinical & Radiation Oncologist of Karkinos Health Care, Mar Baselios Medical Mission Hospital Kothamangalam, was the resource person. It was an interactive session about the different types of cancer, stages of cancer , symptoms of cancer and so on. Along with this a poster-making competition conducted on the theme of cancer awareness for the entire college student body.
Free Cancer Screening Camp
The Department of Social Work organised a free cancer screening camp on November 24, 2022, as part of National Cancer Awareness Day. The programme was coordinated by the students of the Department of Social Work in collaboration with the Traders and Merchants Association of Pothanicad and Karkinos Health Care. Nearly 43 people have benefited from the camp’s services. The cancer screening involves various tests such as blood tests, breast exams, PSA tests, CA-125 tests, and so on.
IKIGAI 2023
As part of the first semester MSW curriculum, the social work trainees at Mount Carmel College conducted a five-day rural camp, IKIGAI 2023, in Nachivayal, Marayoor Grama Panchayat. The camp was held from January 9th to January 13th, 2023. In the camp, the students organized awareness classes, seminars, manual work, a medical camp, and other social conscience-raising programs.

FREE MEDICAL CAMP
Social work trainees organized a free medical camp for the Nachivayal community, collaborating with the medical officer of the Nachivayal Community Health Center, Dr. Jittu Jacob, and his medical team. The support and cooperation of people in the community were the biggest factors in the success of the medical camp, and around 50 people attended. The social work trainees collect the medicine that the medical team provides to the people from various sources.

The teaching learning process has undergone a tremendous up gradation due to the inception of a Smart Class in the college. A state-of-the –art classroom is arranged to work together to allow the facility to conduct more effective teaching-learning sessions.
LIBRARY
Library is the soul of the institution and it acquires, processes, preserves and disseminates information to the user community. It has an extensive collection of books, reference materials for satisfying the academic and research needs of the students and faculty. The library has automated all its library activities to provide effective and wide range of academic resources such as books, journals, online databases.
FIELD WORK
The social work programme gives greater emphasis to field work education. It includes orientation programme, concurrent fieldwork, block placements, rural camp, study tours, and field work seminar.
OBSERVATION VISITS
The agency visit is a part and parcel of the field work to training in social work education. It helps and encourages students to understand the realities and the practical implementation of social work theories and methods in society. It includes the observation visits through important institutional visits, ideal villages or community development projects, government and no government funding agencies.
WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS
Seminars, workshops and conference hold great importance of life of a student. They are platforms not only to learn new aspects, others perspectives and latest information, but also a god way of networking. The department of social work organizes workshops on various fields such as counseling, research, project planning and management, PRA/PLA, and so on. The department encourages students to attend various national & international seminars and conferences as well as to organize same.

CO1: Dissertation/Project is a three credit compulsory core course undertaken by each student during the fourth semester of the programme. Purpose of dissertation/project is to help the student researcher to get an understanding about the steps in social work research and the application of the theory of research methodology in a systematic manner. It shall be carried out under the guidance of a faculty supervisor. Dissertation/Project work shall be completed by working outside the regular teaching hours.

CO1: The fourth and the last semester block placement is the culmination of practice training and the students are given preference to select their own agency, based on their interest areas within the framework of the specialization area.
CO2: This placement is meant to give them the opportunity to work as professional Social Workers and take up individual assignments and responsibility.
CO3: Students could also take up job in an organization and complete this requirement therein, provided that the learning objectives could be ensured.
